Headquartered at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Twelfth Air Force controls the Air Combat Command conventional fighter and bomber forces based in the western United States and is the Air Component (AFSOUTH) for the Unified Combatant Command, United States Southern Command.

Tinker is home to the most intensely deployed wing in the Air Force, the 552nd Air Control Wing operating the E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), now under Twelfth Air Force. It is also the operating location for the joint Air Force-Navy task force for the E-6 TACAMO command and control aircraft.

While Tinker, as a base, is organizationally under the 12th, it hosts the immense Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, part of the Air Materiel Command. It also has a variety of maintenance units.
