Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, our help system and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) or via Twitter. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any administrator for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!

fluid visualization

I saw an article in the recent 2 weeks on cnet.com about a new math approacht top visualize flows, and the visuals they had were pretty good. Robert Tito | Talk 21:41, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Image deletion

I deleted the Image:FAnToM snapshot 2007-02-17 06-28-51 000002.png per your request. You can leave a message on my talk page as well if you need meto help again. Happy editing! Matt Innis (Talk) 00:24, 17 February 2007 (CST)

Cities

I like the idea of cities, but ordering them per country seems not right. So I do hope people will take up a group Cities to pinpoint users to interesting places on this globe. Tschüß, Cheers, Robert Tito | Talk 14:36, 19 February 2007 (CST)

Danke für die Erklärung. Thanks for the explanation. I like the idea to create a page that provides people with links to interesting cities. I think it would be a good idea to create a "Discipline Workgroup" specialized on cities because cities are one of the most common encyclopedic topics. Was this what you meant? -- Alexander Wiebel 15:01, 19 February 2007 (CST)

Genau, als Teil der Geographie workgroup, oder Turismus :) Robert Tito | Talk

order

To indicate an order, not the O is used but a curly O, ϑ though that is the theta. In a definition it seems inappropriate to state the order of what is meant. I guessed Order was meant but then it leaves me wondering: order of what in what. I hope you can understand this argument. Robert Tito | Talk 15:15, 21 February 2007 (CST)

Vatican stats

What is the source of your population data on the vatican. I have checked several sources and got different answers in each - hence why the space was left blank. However, I was expecting a figure in the region of 500's rather than 200's. Derek Harkness 07:54, 14 November 2007 (CST)

Hi Derek, my source is the german "Fischer Weltalmanach 2006". It is a kind of world fact book and as far as I know the best known of its kind in german. It says that 253 people live in Vatican, while 552 have the Vatican citizenship (61 cardinals, 346 "priests", 101 Swiss Guards and 44 laymen). --Alexander Wiebel 12:12, 14 November 2007 (CST)

CZ international

Hi! I’m just letting people who have expressed an interest in CZ International know that there is now a proposal on the table.

Please discuss its feasibility at: CZ:Proposals/Internationalisation sandbox in the Discussion area.

Feel free to help develop the proposal, as well.

We'll also need "drivers".

If you've got no idea what I'm talking about, please refer to: CZ:Proposals/New and CZ:Proposals

Aleta Curry 17:52, 14 February 2008 (CST)

Hi again, Alexander. Thank you very much for participating! Aleta Curry 17:01, 15 February 2008 (CST)
Hi Aleta. I'd love to participate in a German version, so I often scanned the internationalization related pages I could find. Now there is ONE place to go. That will accelerate the process. -- Alexander Wiebel 06:30, 16 February 2008 (CST)

scoring error

Sorry, I glanced too quickly and thought I saw two names in blue, but one blue field was a link. I changed the score back to one. David E. Volk 12:55, 21 February 2008 (CST)

aw crap

My apologies! I was totally oblivious! Thanks for showing me that. --Robert W King 13:39, 28 March 2008 (CDT)

Thanks

For solving that problem. Chris Day 09:35, 19 May 2008 (CDT)

deleting def's

I figured out that you do not need to tag the old redirect at Template Def since at Category:Move def once a definition has been mored to the definition subpage it will indicate that the Template:Def page can be deleted. This should save you quite a few extra clicks if you intend to do more. And thanks for helping. Chris Day 14:50, 22 May 2008 (CDT)

I suspect you mean the Delete Def Category. Unfortunately, like the other Definitions related categories it seem that the category is not updated at all. Alexander Wiebel 16:52, 22 May 2008 (CDT)
Actually, the Category:Move Def does show which templates need to be deleted. As you can see with most of the Olympic articles, they show red when they are finished moving. Only constables can delete them though, so I suspect they will go through every so often and remove them. John Dvorak 16:57, 22 May 2008 (CDT)
This is true for the handmade list in the upper part of the page. But it is not the case for the pages in the category (see lower part of page). Alexander Wiebel 17:01, 22 May 2008 (CDT)
I think that lower part is updating so slowly that Chris gave up and created the top section so we could see what's what. J. Noel Chiappa 17:17, 22 May 2008 (CDT)

colour

I have thought about these isssues before CZ_Talk:Workgroups#colours but sometimes it slips my mind. Even knowing about the isse it is sometimes hard to know which are the most effective colors. Thanks for the heads up. I like the idea of making it more distinct by adding redirect ahead. Chris Day 08:46, 23 May 2008 (CDT)

More on random and urandom

I added to the discussion over at Talk:Unix directory structure - good points have been made by both of us, I think -[[User:Eric M Gearhart|Eric M Gearhart]] 15:40, 6 June 2008 (CDT)

See Talk page of "Density (disambiguation)"

Alexander, please see my posting explaining why I had "Density (mass)" redirecting to "Density (chemistry)" rather than to "Density (disambiguation)". Milton Beychok 11:50, 27 June 2008 (CDT)

Mouse over

Excellent idea. {{R}} and {{Rpl}} will also benefit. Chris Day 10:31, 3 July 2008 (CDT)

I just made the change. Chris Day 11:39, 3 July 2008 (CDT)

Thanks for DNS, and networking in general

I really appreciate knowing someone out there is reading my computers contributions, even if that's just typo fixing. For some strange reason, I have been much slower in writing computers articles than military/history, part of that being a lack of interaction.

DNS is developing very slowly, and I can't really explain it, other than I think I need to make a number of drawings (e.g., how anycsting works amng to root servers, and the basic processes of recursive lookup, caching, etc.). In like manner, with BGP, it's partially a matter of breadth vs. depth. Still, knowing there's someone reading does help, and it inspires me to get some things done in the next few days.

Thanks again. Howard C. Berkowitz 11:10, 4 July 2008 (CDT)

Definition of little o notation

Little o notation/Definition says: "Mathematical notation to express various lower bounds concerning asymptotic behaviour of functions, e.g. the complexity of algorithms in computer science." Why lower bounds? -- Jitse Niesen 11:26, 5 August 2008 (CDT)

I have to look that up again. I just realized that I am accustomed to a different definition than the one described in the article. -- Alexander Wiebel 19:58, 5 August 2008 (CDT)

Goldener Schnitt

--Daniel Mietchen 10:45, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Kannst Du das Bild (119) bitte hochladen? Das vereinfacht die Lizensierung. Danke! --Daniel Mietchen 16:13, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Es gab wohl Server-Probleme. Versuch's doch bitte noch einmal. Danke! --Daniel Mietchen 05:46, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Why do I contribute - Citable encyclopedia

I always heard that one should never cite an encyclopedia. I tried searching, but nothing too interesting came up, except for this: http://original-research.blogspot.com/2007/02/when-to-cite-from-encyclopedia-even.html Yuval Langer 09:36, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Deine Diss

Also eher nein. -- Alexander Wiebel 10:38, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

About your nomination of Gasoline as Article of the Week

Hi, Alexander: You and Meg Ireland have nominated Gasoline for Article of the Week. That article has already been nominated currently for Draft of the Week where it has 9 votes and will most probably be moved to the CZ home page next week.

I am not sure that it would be right to have it also nominated for Article of the Week. Perhaps, you and Meg should withdraw your nomination of the article for Article of the Week?? What do you think?? Milton Beychok 02:32, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

I understand your request. I just have one question: Why put an "approved" article on the first page in the category "new draft of the week". Isn't this a bit of understatement? -- Alexander Wiebel 08:45, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Discography subpage

Hello, I noticed you made a discography subpage for Kraftwerk. I'd like to do the same for Nico, but... Ro Thorpe 20:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Hello. Just go to the talk page. There is a section "unused subpages" ... click [show] ... then a number of links should appear. One link is for the discography. Follow this link to create a new subpage. More infos can also be found on CZ:Subpages. Don't hesitate to ask again if you need more information. -- Alexander Wiebel 10:32, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Done. Many thanks! Ro Thorpe 13:50, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Editor

As requested, you are now an editor in the Computers Workgroup. Congratulations. Feel free to ask me if you have questions on the editor role. Cheers, Jitse Niesen 11:34, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Citizendium charter drafting commitee nomination

Hi Alexander, You've been nominated by a fellow Citizendium member to be a candidate for election to the Citizendium charter drafting committee.

If you haven't been following the discussion in the forums, we're getting ready to establish a charter for Citizendium that outlines the project's goals, ideals, and basic structure. To get the process moving, we put together a plan for electing a group of Citizens to compose a draft of the charter, which will then be submitted for community review. You can find more about the plan here.

You've been nominated by another Citizen to be a candidate for election to that committee. The next step is up to you: you may either accept or decline the nomination by going here and following the instructions at the top of the page.

If you have any questions, just let any of those who accepted know. Daniel Mietchen 15:05, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Questionnaire

You may have been too busy to deal with the questionnaire that we sent to you (by e mail ) last Tuesday - or you may not wish to complete it . Either way, it would help us to plan our work if you would indicate below whether you intend to complete it.

There is a copy of the questionnaire at user:Nick_Gardner_/Sandbox

Nick Gardner 06:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC) on behalf of Pat Palmer, Tom Simmons and Nick Gardner

I will not complete it. -- Alexander Wiebel 18:14, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
