Nicholas William Peter Clegg (born 7th January 1967) has been the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since May 2010, as part of a coalition government with the Conservative Party. He is the leader of the Liberal Democrats, the third largest political party in the United Kingdom, the MP for Sheffield Hallam and a member of the Privy Council. Clegg has been a member of the House of Commons since 2005, and served as a Member of the European Parliament from 1999 to 2004. Clegg made a written contribution to the 2004 Orange Book which sought to move the Liberal Democrats away from social democracy and more towards free market liberalism.
