Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is a large U.S. Army base, home to the XVIII Airborne Corps, the headquarters and school of United States Army Special Forces, and the 82nd Airborne Division. It is adjacent to Pope Air Force Base, which is the main air support facility for U.S. paratroop operations, including airlift and close air support.

The commanding general of XVIII Airborne Corps is the base commander, reporting to Army Forces Command when not attached to a combatant command. The Corps is now assigned to Task Force 180 in Afghanistan, under United States Central Command.

Special Forces facilities on the base are tenant activities; they report to United States Special Operations Command. The John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, as well as the resident Special Forces Group, report to the intermediate Army Special Operations Command.
