Bernard Sanders (popularly known as Bernie Sanders; born September 8, 1941) is a senator for the U.S. state of Vermont and was a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination in the 2016 United States presidential election, before losing to and endorsing Hillary Clinton. He was an independent senator until 2015.
