Nix to the garish colors. --Larry Sanger 12:19, 20 March 2008 (CDT)

What, why? On second thought, color is matter of preference, and if there are real, substantial objections to the way it looks I will change them, but not just because one person doesn't like it. --Robert W King 12:20, 20 March 2008 (CDT)

  • I got hit with a major edit-conflict here just as I tried to insert this. It probably seems pretty lame by now, but here it is anyhow: Personally I strongly agree with Larry on this. There are *many* Web sites with recipes in which the colors are so varied and so gaudy as to distract from the recipe -- I think the *muted* colors should be used only to help the reader distinguish various aspects of the article, not to create a dazzling palette for the sake of the artist.Hayford Peirce 16:15, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
That is the single most totalitarian thing you've ever said to date. Jesus christ, that practically embraces WP:OWN. --Robert W King 12:50, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
I'd say don't worry about the colour scheme that is something that can be discussed latter. The structure of the template is the cool thing. Chris Day (talk) 12:54, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
Speaking of which, i plan to code into the subpages template the ability to adjust the colours without going into the heart of the templates. I don't know how the colours fit with the new skin but I suspect we might want to change them. The colours are something that never really got discussed people just accepted them. Chris Day (talk) 12:54, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
Only if you're looking for "totalitarianism," Robert, and have a tin ear for irony. Consider my tongue being in my cheek: this is the sort of small point where, if anybody has an objection, one should try to work with the person. That's what I do. Now, that said, as Editor-in-Chief, I do reserve the right to make decisions about colors on templates (for chrissakes!), and indeed whether we need a particular template at all. But I am not seriously applying that right here.
If you feel very passionately either about the colors, or that you should resist my totalitarian tendencies, then by all means--I will say charitably that I admire your courage and design sense. ;-) --Larry Sanger 13:01, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
You don't get it. Even when people make jokes about their positions in authority, it amounts to harassment. Consider this:
"Oh sure John Employee, you can do it however you want. But I have to like it or I'll fire you."
That is exactly what's going on here. Even the (joking) threat that you would override something insignficant exemplifies your abuse of authority and micromanagement. This is exactly the reason why I take extended breaks from the project, and I am not alone on this either I am certain. I will not succumb to this kind of pressure, Larry, ever. To simply suggest that you can do anything at whim to anybody does not imply your willingness to "cooperate", as you use it. --Robert W King 13:05, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
Robert, the notion that I am threatening to remove you from the wiki is laughable. I don't know where you get that from: by saying that I am Editor-in-Chief? How does that mean I'm threatening you? It doesn't. I utterly reject the notion that I am abusing my authority or micromanaging. You, on the other hand, seem to want to micromanage me when you draw me into this sort of discussion over--what? Colors on a recipe template. Well, Robert, allow me to state my opinion, and respect it. When you think I "don't get it," as you seem to have been thinking for some time now, how is it possible that I offer an opinion without your thinking that I am "micro-managing" or acting like a tyrant? With your attitude, it becomes just impossible for me to comment on your work without a hostile or defensive reaction. Since you do a lot of work on the wiki, it is crucial that I remain free to comment on your work. So this is a problem. Therefore, I believe we should take this off-wiki with a mediator, and see if we can arrive at some mutual understanding about how to proceed. --Larry Sanger 13:27, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
