Purpose

This article contained original research and has been cut back. It will be revised in due course. The additional topics listed at the end need to be expanded into summary form for inclusion here and most will need individual articles too. Aircraft types should also be reduced to summaries, as with Tu-160, but these should not have individual articles unless they are noteworthy in their own right — such as the Stuka, the Lancaster or the B-17.
