Definition (January 22, 1788 - April 19, 1824), George Gordon Byron, English romantic poet, known not only for his poetry, but also his unconventional lifestyle and advocacy for Greek independence. [d] [e]

"the first best-selling poet"? What does this mean? He obviously wasn't the first poet to outsell other poets: that must have been happening since poetry sold. Does it mean he was the first poet to outsell writers other than poets? Or is it just meaningless advertising hype? Or what? Peter Jackson 09:20, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

I'll try to find a better phrase, but I don't think it's just hype. Selling out successive editions within days had not happened before, and for poetry probably has not happened since.--Martin Wyatt 13:58, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
