Perhaps a little bit of fun facts, bit more verbosity, even a tutorial? The variations may need to become its own article some day, and a bibliography has to go in obviously. Just some links for historical research, I'm determined to find the origin of this. I've gone from thinking it was 1998 to 1995, but I don't think it can get much earlier than that. 1993 should be the earliest that it was even remotely possible.
