Mozarabic is an extinct Romance language formerly spoken in the Muslim territories of the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages. It was sometimes written in Arabic alphabet but it remains poorly documented. Mozarabic was more and more weakened by the domination of Arabic and was progressively replaced or absorbed by the advance of other Romance languages coming form the northern, Christian zones of the peninsula during the Reconquista (Portuguese, Asturian-Leonese, Spanish, Aragonese and Catalan). The language disappeared rapidly after the 15th century.
