Citizendium Subgroups break down our workgroups into smaller, more manageable units, where authors with a common interest can plan and discuss details that are not of general interest in the overall picture. This is particulary useful where a workgroup covers a large number of topics, especially where there are specialised topics that are not related to one another. Editors who do not feel competent to comment in some areas can choose to have a more narrow focus.

The development of subgroups allows contacts to develop between workgroups. This will be useful where disciplines overlaps, and in interdisciplinary topics.
