Winchester, Hampshire

Winchester is an ancient English cathedral city, and the county town of Hampshire. It is sometimes said to be the former capital of England or of Wessex, but in the Anglo-Saxon period when this might have been true, the kings, and their administration with them, were peripatetic, so the statement has little meaning.
