My name is Steven G. Johnson. I am an assistant professor of applied mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where I also received a Ph.D. in theoretical condensed-matter physics, as well as three bachelor of science degrees (in physics, mathematics, and electrical engineering & computer science).

My major professional interests involve nanophotonics (electromagnetism in materials structured on the same scale as the wavelength) and high-performance scientific computing. I was co-recipient of the 1999 Wilkinson Prize for Numerical Software, for my work on the FFTW fast Fourier transform library (www.fftw.org).

See also my home page at MIT.

I've been involved in Wikipedia for some time (as User:Stevenj), and am curious but somewhat cautious regarding the Citizendium project.
