Nathan McElroy attained his B.S.in chemistry at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1994. As an undergraduate, he carried out independent research in organic, polymer, and analytical labs. In addition to the core ACS endorsed curriculum, he also took elective courses in advanced instrumental analysis, radiochemistry, and polymer synthesis. Following graduation, Nathan was a D.O.E. Science and Engineering Research Semester Fellow at Battelle's Marine Sciences Lab in Sequim, WA (a branch of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory). In late 1995, he took a position as an analytical chemist with BASF Agricultural Products Center in Research Triangle Park, NC. In 1998, he returned to school and attained a Ph.D. in chemistry at the Pennsylvania State University in 2003. His focus was in Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships (QSAR). Following graduate school, he worked as a computational chemistry postdoc at AstraZeneca's Research Center in Reims, France. Since August 2005, Dr. McElroy has been an assistant professor of chemistry at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA. His research focuses on QSAR methodology and some environmental analysis. In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors and homebrewing.
