I've been associated with both white and standard color German Shepherd Dogs for more than 50 years. I know the dog more as a working dog than a show dog. As a boy in the 1950's, I grew up on a farm in the mid-west of the United States that worked white and colored shepherds to herd livestock. I grew up listening to stories of early breed development as told by farm neighbors, who had immigrated from Germany early in the twentieth century. The farm neighbors bred and also used white and colored German Shepherd Dogs on their farms. In later years I've more formally researched breed history and actively work to protect the White German Shepherd Dog and its recent White (Swiss) Shepherd breed specialization. I currently own and train 5 German Shepherd Dogs, of which four are white and one is black and tan.
