Jonathan Ariel is a prominent journalist. He has filled numerous positions with well known Israeli and international media organizations such as Maariv, Jerusalem Post, Ha'aretz, The International Herald Tribune, Israel Radio, SABC and the Independent Foreign Service. His last full time journalistic position was Editor-in-Chief of Maariv International.
He has been interviewed and quoted by leading media organizations such as the LA Times, The Economist, The Guardian, The New York Sun, Times of India, The Australian, Sunday Times, Al Jazeera and the BBC, and his articles have been translated into over a dozen languages.
He also has a wealth of highly unusual military and intelligence experience. In addition to having served in the IDF (3 years national service and over 15 years in the reserves in a command capacity), he also served as a MI officer with the ANC. Following the release of Nelson Mandela, he worked with the ANC National Executive during the interim period, until Mandela's inauguration at the first democratically elected president of South Africa.
He is the co-founder, together with Francois Mtirara-Mandela, of Amandla Enterprises, a Cape town based holding company, with a variety of consultant, project management, investment and entrepreneurial operations.
He has studied Political Science, Strategy, Economics and Communications at university or equivalent levels. He speaks English and Hebrew at mother tongue level, French, Dutch (Afrikaans) relatively fluently, and some German, Arabic and Zulu.
