Slim Dusty

David Gordon "Slim Dusty" Kirkpatrick (June 13, 1927–September 19, 2003) was an Australian country music singer and songwriter. In the course of a five-decade career he sold more than seven million albums and singles in Australia and was decorated with both the Order of Australia (AO) and the Order of the British Empire (MBE). He recorded over 100 albums and had numerous hit singles, including his most famous song, the 1957 bestseller A Pub With No Beer, the first Australian single to go gold. Covers of the song in Dutch and German became big hits in Europe, and a somewhat Americanized version by Tom T. Hall (A Bar with No Beer) was a minor hit nearly 30 years later in 1985. A national icon, Slim Dusty sang the unofficial anthem of Australia, Waltzing Matilda, to a thronged stadium at the Closing Ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney.
