Yellowstone National Park is a well known national park in Wyoming USA. It was designated in 1872, making it the world’s first national park (designating areas as protected lands had begun earlier in the century, but it can be argued that Yellowstone was the first true national park). It comprises 3,468 square miles. The park is probably best known for the geyser Old Faithful, which shoots hot water from a natural hot spring over one hundred feet into the air.

Yellowstone is well equipped for tourists, with visitors centers, stores, hotels, gas stations, guided tours and paved road acess during the warm months of the year.

Visitors to the park can take part in many outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping and fishing. Pets can be brought in to Yellowstone, though they are restricted to certain areas.

Popular culture

Yellowstone was parodied as Jellystone Park, the home of Yogi Bear.
