A military historical welcome
Greetings! I'm a military, engineering and computers editor, but have a strong interest in military history as well as technology. Let me throw out some things that might be of interest.
It's with a certain sigh of relief that I see you using the term Civil War. With some people, I approach carefully, inquiring how they refer to the period between 1861 and 1865. The genteel docents at the Museum of the Confederacy tended to refer to "the late unpleasantness between the states", while I've known a few who prefer "War of Yankee Aggression". I'd call myself adequate but not expert on the period; there's a general article that could use some improvement.
If WWI naval history is of interest, and you might like to start by improving an article, battleship could use some more work on both the original Dreadnought, as well as evolution by Jutland. While I'm again not a WWI specialist, the Gallipoli campaign has always fascinated me, and I'd welcome an article, helping out as I can. I did address some of the technical aspects of counterbattery (generally), and in more detail in Geophysical MASINT#Counterbattery and Countersniper Location and Ranging at the Battle of Vimy Ridge, but that is an enormously significant event in so many ways. While counterbattery is still a real need, the latest complementary active defense is in counter-rocket, artillery and mortar.
I've been involved in considerable editing on some of the material on Vietnam. In particular, I just put up an article, Vietnam wars, which is intended, eventually, to complement a more specific article on 1962-1975. The current Vietnam War article deals with both. The idea of context for wars interests me.
Just for the record, since I see you've on Merritt Island, I did start rocket science. :-)
