- Adrien-Marie Legendre : (1752 – 1833) important French mathematician whose name lives on in the Legendre polynomials and associated Legendre functions.
- Legendre polynomials : Orthogonal polynomials in the variable −1 ≤ x ≤ 1 and weight function w(x) = 1.
- Associated Legendre function : Function defined by where Pℓ denotes a Legendre function.
- Legendre-Gauss Quadrature formula : the specific approximation of the integral with the sum of N terms, which becomes exact for the polynomial integrand of order < 2N.
