Applications and types

- Eurocopter Tiger [r]: Made by EADS, a light attack helicopter, used for armed reconnaissance, for countries including Australia, France, Germany and Spain [e]
- Gazelle helicopter [r]: A French medium helicopter, used in civilian, military transport, and attack helicopter configurations [e]
- H-60 helicopter [r]: A family of light transport helicopters used by the U.S. services, including the standard troop carrier UH-60 Blackhawk, naval rescue and surface/subsurface warfare, and the MH-60 special operations variant that is not really a Black Helicopter but instead very, very dark gray [e]
- MH-53 PAVE LOW [r]: A U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command long-range heavy helicopter, with all-weather and night capability, used for combat search and rescue, guiding other helicopters without equivalent night and navigation equipment, and infiltrating, exfiltrating, and supplying special operations personnel [e]
- Mi-28 (helicopter) [r]: A Russian armed helicopter, with the Western designation HAVOC, with a secondary combat search and rescue role [e]
- MQ-8 [r]: A multipurpose unmanned aerial vehicle, in the form of a helicopter with relatively long endurance, whose functions include surveillance and communications relay [e]
- OH-58 Kiowa Warrior [r]: A United States Army helicopter with extensive sensors for surveillance and guiding weapons fired by other air or ground weapons platforms, and also is a light attack helicopter on its own rights. [e]
- Super Frelon helicopter [r]: A French heavy-lift helicopter, primarily military but with some civilian roles [e]
- Mast-mounted sensor [r]: A means of mounting various sensors, such as surveillance, weapons control and warning, on top of the driveshaft of a helicopter, placing the sensors above the rotor so only they need to be exposed by a helicopter hiding in ground terrain [e]
- Vertical takeoff and landing [r]: Aircraft, most commonly helicopters, that can take off and land vertically, with no horizontal takeoff or landing roll. [e]
