Julia Elizabeth Andrews, DBE (known as Julie Andrews, née Wells; born 1 October 1935) is an English singer and actress. She has appeared in some of the best-known mid twentieth century musicals, including My Fair Lady, Camelot and the film versions of The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins and also in non musicals. Also of note was her return to Broadway after a 30-year absence, in Victor, Victoria. In the new millenium, Andrews costarred in a new spate of films, including the popular The Princess Diaries.

Andrews' voice type is soprano. Her voice was damaged during a throat operation in 1997, that the incident became a major news story is a testament to her fame. She was married to producer Blake Edwards (a second marriage for both) from 1969 until his death in 2010.
