Gabriel Schoenfeld is an American political scientist, who is Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute, working on government secrecy and Resident Scholar at the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, New Jersey. Previously, he was a senior fellow at Center for Strategic and International Studies, senior editor of Commentary (magazine) and founder of the research bulletin Post-Soviet Prospects. He has been identified with neoconservatism, and wrote an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal speculating that Barack Obama might be able to rebuild the neoconservative movement of "as left-leaning intellectuals who only deserted the Democratic Party after it fell under the influence of the counterculture during the Vietnam War."
by stressing personal accountability and giving breathtakingly short shrift to the race-men who have built their careers on victimhood -- the Reverends Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are two such falling stars -- Mr. Obama has already begun rewriting American life according to the neoconservative handbook.
In his 2010 book, Necessary Secrets: National Security, the Media and the Rule of Law, he argues that the culture of leaking classified information has grown to catastrophic proportions. Jack Goldsmith called it "the best account ever of the relationship betwen the press and the government concerning the protection and disclosure of national-security secrets, one that is centrally relevant to manifold national security debates today." Leonard Downie Jr., vice-president at large of the Washington Post, said "...Schoenfeld clearly wants a well-known news organization like the New York Times and its journalists, to which he is obviously antipathetic, to be prosecuted to create what lawyers call a chilling effect on the rest of the American news media, persuading them to abdicate their right and responsibility to decide what they publish and broadcast. That, indeed, would subvert our democracy. "
