Alsisar Haveli

Located right in the heart of the Pink City, Jaipur, the Alsisar Haveli built by Rao Shekhaji of the ancient Kachawa Rajputs of Rajasthan provides a traditional Rajasthani experience to its guests.

History

More than five centuries ago Rao Shekhaji established his own kingdom North of Jaipur. The Alsisar Haveli was built by Rao Shekhaji in the year 1892 of the Kachawa Rajputs who were known for their bravery. The Alsisar Haveli was the family mansion of the branch of the Shekhawat clan who ruled over Jaipur. They are reputed to have ruled Rajasthan for nearly 500 years. This Haveli was built on what was then the rugged terrain of the Aravalli Mountains. The mansion was refurbished in 1982 by the members of the Kachawa family who transformed the ancient family seat to a heritage resort and entered the hospitality business. The rights to this Haveli still remain with the descendants of the Kachawa family.

Architecture

The mansion was built with an elevated platform in the central courtyard where the men-folk of the house assembled for meetings which is now to host puppet shows and dances. The inner courtyard was used by the womenfolk of the Kachawa family. The Havel is representative of typical Rajasthani architecture with a spacious lobby that was used in ancient times by ladies of the Kachawa clan. The Haveli also has in-built alcoves and gardens that symbolize Rajasthani architecture in the old days. There is also the Sheesh Mahal that was used by the Shekhawat clan ladies which is now used by guests as sit-outs.

Recognition

The Alsisar Haveli in Jaipur is now recognized as a heritage site Hotel of Rajasthan and has been accorded a 3-star heritage status by the Ministry of Tourism, India.

Current Status

Situated about 2 kilometers from the Jaipur railway station, the Alsisar Haveli is now a heritage hotel that offers its guests a traditional stay with modern amenities in any of its 36 rooms. The rooms are furnished with Rajasthani furniture and Rajashthani fabric and linen which were once used by the ancient Thakurs. The tub-baths also represent the ancient style that existed centuries ago. The aim has been to recreate the days of the ancient Rajasthani royals. Folk dances of Rajasthan and music shows as well as sightseeing tours are organized by the Alsisar Haveli resort in Jaipur for guests who wish to explore the city of Jaipur and understand its culture.
