Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh completed his B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry and M.Sc in Physical Chemistry and secured first class with first positions in both examinations. He has been duly awarded THREE GOLD MEDALS for his outstanding academic performance in the M.Sc final Chemistry examination 1999 of the University of Karachi and was declared the best student of the Faculty of Science. He did his Ph.D in the field of Chemistry in 2003 and completed his Postdoctoral research in 2007 in Brazil on a fellowship awarded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), Brazil and the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), Italy. He was the only Pakistani among the 10 candidates from all the developing countries for the said fellowship award. He has received other Awards/Shields/ Scholarships on his excellent academic record.

He started his career as Full Time Cooperative Teacher in the Department of Chemistry, University of Karachi (August 2000 to January 2004). He served Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research as Senior Scientific Officer from January 2004 to October 2005 then Pakistan Council for Science and Technology as Senior Research Officer from October 2005 to June 2008. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor of Chemistry on TTS since June 2008.

Due to his scientific achievements and international recognition he has been awarded “Young Chemist Award” by International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), USA in Italy in 2007 and nominated by World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) as a delegate to participate in the World Science Form in Hungary in 2007. He participated as a representative of Pakistan in the first Assembly of the UNESCO-affiliated World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) in Morocco in 2004 and other international conferences/trainings in Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain, The Netherlands and Uruguay sponsored by UNESCO, IUPAC, TWAS, WAYS, UNU and PSF. He is a member of eight national/international professional bodies. He has published 25 papers in international/national journals and presented 16 papers in international/national conferences till December 2008. He is on the editorial board of the World Applied Sciences Journal, Advances in Natural and Applied Sciences and the American-Eurasian Journal of Scientific Research. He has also been approved by the Higher Education Commission as a Ph.D supervisor and is included in the directory of “Productive Scientists of Pakistan”, 2005 and 2007.
