They are viewed as one of the most legendary representatives of the gothic genre, though they avoid this label because they find it too caricatural. In fact, they often blend gothic with heavy metal, industrial and pop. Founded in 1979, the band's line-up has changed many times but has always revolved around its frontman, the charismatic singer Andrew Eldritch.
