Skiffle

Skiffle was a kind of do-it-yourself up-tempo country music briefly popular in Britain in the 1950s (a sort of precursor to British rock 'n' roll, as personified by Cliff Richard). Lonnie Donegan was its archetypal star, and instrumentation contained a washboard for percussion. Johnny Duncan's country hit 'Last Train to San Fernando' may have been an inspiration.
