Ritual encompasses a wide range of human activities, including but not limited to religion, citizenship, obedience and personal development. One definition, more in the area of anthropology and religion, is "the visible control of abstract thoughts. Tries to control unpredictable events and the supernatural. Tries to know the unknowable and change the unchangeable." [1]
