On August 18, 2022, Ray spoke out to defend a former professor at Kolkata's St. Xavier's University, after University officials had forced her to resign over the existence of photos of her wearing a bikini.[7] Ray denounced the unfairness of the firing, and posted her own bikini pictures, and called on other celebrities to join her, and post bikini pictures of their own.
