Mormon refers to a prophet, general, and historian said in The Book of Mormon to have lived in the Americas from 321-421 [1]. He is credited as the ancient author of The Book of Mormon, a record considered to be scripture by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
