The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is a new intergovernmental organization for promoting the global commercialization of renewable energy. As of May 2010, IRENA has 144 founding members (143 states and the European Union).[1] The aim is to have IRENA fully operational by the end of 2010 with an initial annual budget of US$25 million by 2011.[2]
