Ernst Eduard Kummer (29 January 1810 - 14 May 1893) was a German mathematician. His work encompassed diverse fields in mathematics, including applied mathematics, analysis, algebraic geometry. However, he is probably best known for his work in number theory, and specifically, his progress towards a proof of Fermat's Last Theorem.
