Dieric Bouts, born around 1410-1420, died 1475, was a Dutch painter who was appointed town painter of Louvain in 1468. His work is notable for being the first in Dutch painting to allow for scope in the expression of moods and emotions in his depictions.
Life and influences
Dieric Bouts was born sometime between 1410 and 1420 in Haarlem and lived in Louvain from the mid 1440's, becoming town painter in 1468.
Bouts is considered to be one of the most important successors of Dutch painter Rogier van der Weyden. He is also influenced by the work of Jan van Eyck and Petrus Christus.
