Some conic sections.

Conic section is a term used to describe the shape produced when a plane and a cone intersect. This produces either a circle, ellipse, parabola or hyperbola, or in the special case when the plane touches the vertex, a point, line or two intersecting lines. The general formula for a conic section is as follows:

Conic sections are one of the most basic forms of shape in maths.[1]
