Major, United States Air Force, who received a posthumous Medal of Honor for an act of valor on 22 November 1952; leading a flight of close air support fighters against enemy positions, his F-80 aircraft was hit during a run on a target; he deliberately changed course and crashed into the antiaircraft guns, destroying them and allowing the flight to carry out its mission
