The application procedure for editors is the same, except that (in Step 2) editor candidates should also send to personnel [at] citizendium.org two additional items: a CV or resume attached (or linked), as well as some links to Web material that tends to support the claims made in the CV, such as conference proceedings, or a departmental home page. Both additional requirements may be fulfilled by a CV that is hosted on an official work Web page.
Depending upon their educational qualifications, editors applying through the Equivalencey Track must hold varying levels of formal work and publishing experience that tabulate to the typically expected expertise outcomes of applicants in the Academic and Professional Tracks. Note: it is perfectly acceptable for an editor to get started as an author. To become an editor, then, a person could simply place links to a CV, and perhaps other supporting material, on his or her user page, and then send a link to that page to personnel [at] citizendium.org.

Overview

Citizendium welcomes applications for editorship to personnel@citizendium.org. There are three tracks in which experts may apply:

  • The Academic Track
  • The Professional Track
  • The Equivalency Track

Three Tracks to Editorship

Academic Track

Editors applying through the Academic Track must hold the qualifications typically needed for a tenure-track academic position in their field. Pinnacle is they must hold a terminal degree in their academic field e.g., history, sociology, physics. This may demonstrated by:

  • Sending a brief introductory letter, an attached or linked CV, and copies of academic transcripts.
  • Sending a brief introductory letter and an attached or linked CV that includes links to reliable third-party sources that support claims.

Applicants must provide adequate evidence of claims. Official transcripts may be requested.

Professional Track

Editors applying through the Professional Track must hold a terminal professional degree in their field (e.g., engineering, performing arts, computers) and have a demonstrable record of significant work and at least some publishing experience.

This may demonstrated by:

  • Sending a brief introductory letter and an attached or linked CV or resume that includes links to reliable third-party sources that support claims of work and publishing experience.

Applicants must provide adequate evidence of claims. Official transcripts may be requested.

Equivalency Track

Depending upon their educational qualifications, editors applying through the Equivalencey Track must hold varying levels of formal work and publishing experience that tabulate to the typically expected expertise outcomes of applicants in the Academic and Professional Tracks. Applicants who should apply through the Equivalencey Track include:

  • Persons with terminal degrees in fields other than those for which they are claiming expertise.
  • Persons with Masters degrees degrees in fields for which they are claiming expertise.
  • Persons with Masters degrees degrees in fields other than those for which they are claiming expertise.
  • Persons who hold anything less than a Masters degree but who claim eminence in their field.

In the above cases, and in proportionate balance with their holding or lack of holding formal educational qualifications, applicants must demonstrate a record of work and publishing experience that tabulate to the typically expected expertise outcomes of applicants in the Academic and Professional Tracks.

Final Note

We welcome editor-hopefuls to begin as authors. In this case, authors may apply through their user page, and send a link to their page to personnel@citizendium.org.
