The Balkan mountain range (Serbian and Bulgarian: Стара планина - Stara planina, meaning "The Old Mountain") is a mountain range on the Balkan Peninsula|Balkans. It is an extension of the Carpathian mountain range, separated from it by the Danube River. The highest peak is Botev (2,376 m), located in Bulgaria.
