Albert Arnold "Al" Gore Jr. (born March 31, 1948) is an American politician, environmental activist and businessman who served as the 45th Vice President of the United States. Gore was the Democratic Party's nominee in the 2000 election, and face a highly-disputed loss to George W. Bush. Since then, Gore has gained prominence as a vocal opponent to the Bush administration's policies in the War on Terror, and for his efforts to combat global warming. An Inconvenient Truth, a feature film with Gore discussing global warming, won the 2007 Academy Award for "Best Documentary" and Gore was a co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his work on climate change. Gore has stated that he currently has no plans to re-enter politics, but as of November 2007, Gore is the subject of a large, grassroots petition effort for him to seek the nomination of the Democratic Party in the 2008 presidential election.
