Aachen, know in French as Aix-la-Chapelle, is the westernmost city of Germany. It has a population of 256605.[1]
History
In the late 8th century it became known as the residence of Charlemagne, and started to decline in the 16th. The city was too far from the centre to be a capital, and the city ceased to be the coronation site in the 1560s. The city was devastated by a fire in 1656.
Geography
Aachen is home to Schwertbad-Quelle, the warmest hot spring in Germany.
