Portland-class [r]: Built in 1932-1933 under London Naval Treaty constraints, these 10,300 ton U.S. Navy heavy cruisers were originally near-copies of the Northampton-class, but last two ships were up-armored and last converted to Wichita-class; USS Indianapolis (CA-35), of this class, sunk with greatest single-ship loss of life in the U.S. Navy
