Poetry (from Greek: ποίησις, and Latin: poeta, creating) is a form of literary work typically using some rythmic or metrical textual elements to convey meaning. Until the late Middle Ages almost all literary works used some form of poetic meter. After the appearance of literary works in prose in the 15th century, the meaning of the term gradually changed to define literary texts consistently using some type of known poetic form.
