A rival city-state in Ancient Greece to Athens. It was noted for having a warrior culture presided over by two Kings, and for winning the long series of Peloponnesian Wars against the Athenian-led Delian League. In the Iliad according to Homer, King Menelaus had his wife, Helen of Troy, abducted by the Trojan prince, Paris, which triggered the decade-long Trojan War.
