I've been doing this since 1981 and my experience spans the entire gamut of microprocessor software, from Z80 machine code through .NET Micro Framework all the way to desktop software, although I'm a bit thin on things Unix. The types of software on which I have worked range from an endless succession of two-tier "business applications" to embedded software for phones and robots, as well as schema design for databases - a subject on which I presented in several Australian software conferences in the 90s.
