The Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic) are a philharmonic orchestra founded in 1842 by Otto Nicolai and based in Vienna. It is one of the world's most renowned orchestras and famous for its "Viennese" sound.
While the orchestra is organized as an independent, self-administrating association it is closely related to the Vienna Opera Orchestra to which all its members have to belong.
