Gerald comes from Loyola School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he graduated as a Juris Doctor with a certificate in international law. At Loyola, he received an Admission Scholarship, the Gillis Long Public Service Award, and the Skills Curriculum Honor Roll Award. Gerald’s activities and accomplishments at law school included Phi Delta Phi, the Association of Women Law Students, the Spanish American Law Student Association, and Student Government Association. He is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia (March 2009), State of Louisiana (May 2002 currently inactive), U.S. Tax Court (June 2002) and U.S. Court of International Trade (April 2004).  From 2001-2003, he was a Presidential Management Fellow. In May 2006, while working full time with the Department of the Treasury, Gerald earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from Georgetown Law Center’s Evening Division Program. Gerald Shields joined Toastmasters in 2012. In his spare time, Gerald volunteers with the Citizen Emergency Response Team in Prince George’s County and with Wikipedia as an editor and photographer. Recently, Gerald was interviewed by the New York Times because of his work with articles on North Korea and on feminism.
