He served alongside Emma, Queen Consort of Hawai‘i. Alexander was born on 9 February 1834 in Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu to Mataio Kekuanaoa, Governor of Hawaiʻi, and Kīnaʻu, the Kuhina Nui or Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.
