His rank was Oberfuhrer (Senior Colonel) in the Waffen SS. He held the position of Chief Hygienist of the Reich Physician SS and Police (0berster Hygieniker, Reichsarzt SS und Polizei) and Chief of the Hygienic Institute of the Waffen SS (Chef des Hygienischen Institutes der Waffen SS).
He was convicted of participation in the high-altitude, freezing, malaria, sulfanilamide experiments,seawater, epidemic jaundice experiments, sterilization, typhus, poison and incendiary bomb experiments.
