About me

Greetings! I have been at Citizendium since the pilot began. I hold the roles of Constable, Assistant to the Chief Constable, and author.

Education and experience

I plan to enter an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in 2008.

Academic Interests

I have very broad interests. Among them are:

• anthropology, development, interdisciplinarity, literature, pedagogy, philosophy, political economy, politics, and theology.
• Micronesia, the Caribbean, Latin America.

Work

I have numerous years international work experience and it has marked all I do. One of my main passions is adult education and its role in community-based development. My pedagogy is that of critical literacy in the vein of Paulo Freire. One of Freire's co-authors, Ira Shor, perfectly defines the pedagogy as facilitating

habits of thought, reading, writing, and speaking which go beneath surface meaning, first impressions, dominant myths, official pronouncements, traditional cliches, received wisdom, and mere opinions, to understand the deep meaning, root causes, social context, ideology, and personal consequences of any action, event, object, process, organization, experience, text, subject matter, policy, mass media, or discourse.[1]

I teach adults remedial literature and reading, writing, social sciences, computers, and special topics. I am also a curriculum writer, and a tutor of students with often complex second-language acquisition difficulties.

Play

"Siren" is a domesticated Saipanese "Boonie Dog"

I work very hard but also play hard when I do. I have loved fishing since I was a boy and have caught saltwater game fish from sailfish to snook, and many freshwater species including several largemouth bass over ten pounds. I also love camping and mosquito repellent. My dream vacation is to be dropped by plane on the side of remote river in Alaska for 10 days, with only camping and fishing gear (yea, okay, and a satellite phone and a shotgun just in case). When I can't play hard I enjoy the companionship of my dogs and watch movies, especially sci-fi.
