Reading the medical literature about cheek implants, chin implants, and breast implants brings one directly into the history of silicone for these uses. Since injection of silicone can be done by individuals who are not highly trained, there have been cases of lay individuals Practicing cosmetic surgery without a license" using this technique. Complications, including fatal embolism, are not rare. Major newspapers report cases all over United States.
