:Holy Writ (i.e., Pitkin Pride of Britain Books' "Britain's Kings and Queens" pamphlet) also begins with Egbert, although the line-of-descent table on the inside front cover goes several generations before him to Cerdic. And although I seem to have misplaced my Pitkin "Royal Line of Succession" book, I think it lists a line going back to Woden, with a disclaimer that the first several bazillion guys at the head of the list are legendary.
